Not The Sharpest Crayon In The Box

TRIGGER WARNING! – ARTICLE TALKS ABOUT RAPE, DRUGGING, AND SEXUAL ASSAULT!

Truth be told I have no witty opening for this particular article so just enjoy hearing about this football player that wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

Darren Mallory Sharper was born on November 3, 1975 in Richmond, Virginia. He is the youngest of three siblings and attended Hermitage High School in Henrico County, Virginia. He was a very driven student earning himself a spot on the honor roll as well as perfect attendance for 3 out of the 4 years he was in school. He played on the varsity football and basketball teams and was also involved in the student cousin as well as the foreign language club. After graduating in 1998 Sharper attended the prestigious William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia.

While there he earned all- American- honors twice. This dude was on fire! During his senior year in 1996, he was the Yankee Conference Defensive Player of the Year after intercepting 10 passes for a season. He finished his college career with a school record 24 career interceptions and a I-AA record 468 career interception return yards.  Sharper also set the school record with 1,027 career punt return yards. The Green Bay Packer selected Darren Sharper in the 2nd round of the 1997 NFL Draft. His brother Jamie happened to also drafted in the 2nd round that same year by the Baltimore Ravens.

Sharper made his NFL debut against the Chicago Bears on September 21, 1997 but didn’t make his first tackle in week 4 of the season when the Packers went up against the Minnesota Vikings. On November 2, 1997 he had a “pick 6” that earned him his first career touchdown while up against the Detroit Lions. In 1998 Packers coach Mike Holgren named Sharper the starting safety for the regular season. He started in all 16 games and ended the season with 73 combined tackles. Sharper remained the starting safety under new Green Bay coach Ray Rhodes and ended the 1999 season with a career high 113 combined tackles and 3 interceptions. In 200 he once against started in all 16 games and recorded 92 combined tackles, one sack, and led the entire league with nine interceptions (under new head coach Mike Sherman).

He just kept on having amazing seasons with the Packers until he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 2005 (I just had to wrap that crap up). He did pretty good with the Vikings as well until he traded to the New Orleans Saints in 2009. He played with the Saints for one season before becoming a free agent. After he wasn’t picked up by any teams despite having workouts with some shit hit the fan. On to the juicy stuff!

On February 2, 2013 Sharper allegedly helped drug a female who was attending the same pre game Super Bowl party as himself. As a result of being drugged the woman was raped by Sharper’s close friend Brandon Licciardi. On August 31, 2013 a woman in New Orleans cane forward and claimed that Sharper had raped her at a party they both attended one night. On September 23, 2013 Sharper allegedly drugged and raped two women in New Orleans with his friend Erik Nunez. This ass hat is insatiable, makes me sick. On October 30, 2013 Sharper was accused of drugging and raping a woman after meeting her and her friend at a night club. On November 20, 2013 2 female Arizona State University students claimed that Sharper drugged and raped both of them.

Between the nights of January 13 & 14, 2014 Sharper reportedly drugged and raped 4 women within 24 hours in 2 different states. On January 14, 2014 Darren Sharper was finally arrested on 2 separate counts of sexual assault. Wait, just 2…it should be more like 75. On February 14th of that year he was officially charged with 2 counts of rape and 5 related felony counts and was facing up to 30 years in prison. He was released on $200,000 bond and pleaded not guilty on all counts.

On February 27, 2014 Sharper turned himself in to New Orleans police after they issues warrants for his arrest related to 2 additional rape charges. On December 12, 2014 he was indicted on 2 counts of aggravated rape and faced a mandatory life sentence if convicted. That’s what I’m talking about Louisiana! Guys, I can’t make this up…I really can’t, I’m not that creative. This shit is just too wild. On March 12, 2014 Darren Sharper was charged with one count of rape in Arizona and on March 20, 2015 the state of Nevada charged him with 2 counts of sexual assault. I told you this story is just too disgusting and wild to be made up. On March 23rd Sharper went to a Los Angeles court house along with his lawyer and entered a plea deal. At least this dude was smart enough not to take his chances, sheesh.

On November 29, 2016, Sharper was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor. His plea deal allows him to serve half that time, dropping his sentence to 10 years. On March 24th Sharper went to a Nevada court house and pleaded guilty to 2 counts of sexual assault. On October 27, 2016 a Nevada judged sentenced him to 3-8 years in prison. That August he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexual assault by a Louisiana judge. He was charged on a federal level for distributing judge and was sentenced to 220 months in prison (with 3 years supervised parole afterwards). Darren Sharper’s sentences will all run concurrently. There are 9 victims officially on the court’s records although some of the judges believe Sharper had up to 16 victims. In July 2019, Sharper filed a motion to undo his 2016 plea deal arguing that he was not adequately advised by his previous lawyers on the consequences of his guilty plea. The judge dismissed his motion citing that Sharper had admitted in open court that he understood the terms of his plea agreement on more than once occasion. So, uh…yeah, he is still in prison.

I have no words for how horribly disgusting this story is. Rape or sexual assault of any kind is not okay and should never be tolerated. If you believe you have been put in any of these situations tell an authority figure or loved one, even if you think they won’t believe you.

  1. I remember this dude . He was indeed a good player. Not sure what went wrong and/or where he took that detour to hell. but what a waste. Not many players get to play in the NFL, but this dude this and unfortunately he didn’t take advantage of the chance he was given for his talent.
    Enjoyed reading the article.
